Brunswick County Board of Education, its time to repay our kids.

To support our efforts next Tuesday, December 2, please sign our MOTION, below!  Let’s show the BOE how to make the MOTION to DO THE RIGHT THING!  Tell all your friends and neighbors!  By signing below, immediately a copy of this MOTION will be sent electronically to all BOE Members and the new Interim Superintendent.
We have a strong voice, let them hear it!

Dear CDS Supporter:

On September 9, 2014, I stood before the Brunswick County Board of Education (“BOE”) and asked them to settle all legal proceedings and to reimburse CDS for the $1,097,673.68 improperly withheld since 2001. More than 800 of you assisted me by signing our electronic Petition asking the BOE to “do the right thing” and I assure you that got their attention!

Because CDS is a public school, state law requires the BOE to reimburse us for our per-pupil share of appropriated education funds. CDS educated hundreds of Brunswick County children since 2001 and it was the BOE’s legal duty to reimburse us. These funds are vital to CDS because even when properly funded, our students receive 27% fewer per-pupil dollars than BOE students.

A majority of the BOE can easily remedy this underfunding by approving a Motion to reimburse CDS at its meeting scheduled for next Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. at the David R. Sandifer Building in the Brunswick County Government Complex, 30 Government Center Drive NE in Bolivia, NC. All we ask them is to make a reasonable settlement offer and to uphold their sworn duty as elected officials to treat public charter school kids equally as the law requires. While they retain these funds unjustly, the legal shenanigans continue, the lawsuit drags on and our school children receive less than they deserve.

I believe that a the new BOE Superintendent and a majority of the BOE cares deeply about providing the best public education for all Brunswick County students. With this, and your help, on Tuesday, December 2, 2014, we can convince them to “do the right thing.” I need your help!

Please join me for a peaceful and respectful personal appearance at the BOE meeting on next Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 6:30pm at the David R. Sandifer Building in the Brunswick County Government Complex, 30 Government Center Drive NE in Bolivia, NC. I ask only for a brief appearance by you from 6:30-7:30pm, as I respect your time and appreciate how much each of you already gives in support of our school.

Once again, we will urge them to repay these improperly withheld funds to CDS students. I ask now that you join me in this worthwhile endeavor. I hope and pray the BOE will hear our voices and be unable to ignore the faces of parents whose students have been underfunded for too long. We should not have to pursue justice for our students through lawsuits and litigation.

Recently, many Brunswick County parents mobilized to attend a BOE meeting for the cause of a departing anti-charter school Superintendent. I am hopeful that you as members of our CDS family will mobilize and show a stronger commitment for a better cause. Our brief appearance before the BOE next Tuesday will help us restore this underfunding and show the BOE that public charter school families demand to be treated equally to their peers at traditional public schools.

Please join me next Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. at the David R. Sandifer Building in the Brunswick County Government Complex, 30 Government Center Drive NE in Bolivia, NC.

Very truly yours,

John J. Ferrante
