Superintendent’s Welcome Letter
Dear Parents, Families, and Friends of The Roger Bacon Academy’s Charter Schools:
Welcome to our 2011-2012 North Carolina School Report Card, where you will find information on our schools’ student achievement, attendance, class size, safety, teacher quality, technology resources, and parental involvement. Both Charter Day School and Columbus Charter School have continued to progress toward our mission of providing the highest quality educational experience in a safe, clean, spirited, and morally strong environment.
Charter Day School and Columbus Charter School had overall performance composites above 85% proficiency in Reading, Math, and Science and achieved high growth for the 2011-2012 school year. Additionally, our 8th grade scholars, taking high school level courses, scored 100% proficient on their EOCs. Both schools are Title I schools, which indicates high percentages of student families are economically disadvantaged. Economically disadvantaged students typically represent the highest percentage of “at-risk” students in a school; yet both schools still made AYP and earned the title of “School of Distinction.”
In addition to the increase of our assessment scores, The Roger Bacon Academy’s total enrollment has continued to increase as we now are serving over 1600 students between our two campuses. We credit this growth to our priorities of a safe environment, character education, and academic excellence.
The Roger Bacon Academy’s Charter Schools are tuition-free, open-enrollment public schools. Widely recognized as a compelling choice to conventional public education, the schools have built a reputation for retaining dedicated and highly qualified teachers that provide students with a strong and proven academic foundation. The schools have received numerous awards, including the designation of being a “Top-25 School for Academic Growth” and an “Honors School of Excellence” in the state of North Carolina.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me or the principals directly to discuss this report card or any other interests you may have in our charter schools.
We will continue striving for excellence,
Mark T. Cramer
